What Four Corners owners add

  • Hot tubs. Usually a 240 V circuit at 50–60 A and a GFCI disconnect near the tub, sometimes with a trench across the yard. National guides put the circuit around $1,200–$2,800, more with long trenches. See hot tub wiring.
  • EV chargers. Level 2 installs run $555–$1,380 in Angi's guide and $1,200–$3,000 in HomeGuide's. See EV chargers.
  • Heat pumps. A dedicated 240 V heat pump circuit is about $300–$1,300 in 2026 contractor guides; backup heat strips add load. See panel upgrades if the panel is full.
  • Shop and garage circuits. Heated garages, welders and block heaters.

These are published national estimates, not quotes. More ranges are on the Bozeman electrician cost guide.

Four Corners in the September 11, 2024 storm

A storm with strong winds and rain left more than 9,000 NorthWestern customers without power on September 11, 2024. Local TV coverage listed outages at Four Corners, along with the largest single outage near Flanders Mill Road and West Oak Street in northwest Bozeman. The airport station recorded a 71 mph gust that day (NOAA data, computed).

Area outages go to NorthWestern at 888-467-2669 or the NorthWestern outage map. An electrician is the call when the problem is inside your house, or when wind damaged the mast or meter base. If you want backup power for the next one, a generator needs a permanently installed transfer switch; see generator installation.

Permits: the state, even with a Bozeman address

Four Corners is unincorporated Gallatin County. The City of Bozeman's codes apply only inside city limits, so electrical permits here come from the Montana Department of Labor & Industry. That is true even when the mailing address says Bozeman.

  • State fees: $45 for one added circuit, $70 for two or three, $120 for a remodel with a panel or service change (DLI form, Rev. 11/25).
  • The permit holder calls for rough-in and final inspections, with 48 hours' notice before work is covered.
  • NorthWestern won't energize new or changed wiring without a permit.

Homeowners may wire their own home under a state homeowner permit if they live there and do the work personally. That does not cover rentals, tenants or grid-tied generators.

Before you hire. Montana requires electricians and electrical contractors to be licensed by the State Electrical Board (MCA Title 37, ch. 68). Check the license in the Montana DLI license lookup, ask for a certificate of liability insurance, and get a written, itemized quote that says who pulls the permit.

Four Corners electrical FAQ

Who issues electrical permits in Four Corners?

The Montana Department of Labor & Industry. Four Corners is unincorporated, so neither the City of Bozeman nor Gallatin County issues electrical permits there. This holds even with a Bozeman mailing address. A licensed contractor normally pulls the state permit and schedules the state inspections.

Can my newer panel handle a hot tub and an EV charger?

Maybe. Each usually needs a dedicated 240 V circuit, and together they can add a lot of load. A licensed electrician can run a load calculation from your panel and appliances and tell you whether you need more space, a subpanel or a larger service.

Who do I call when the power goes out in Four Corners?

NorthWestern Energy at 888-467-2669 or its outage map, for outages across the area. Call an electrician when only part of your house is out, a breaker won't reset, or the meter base or mast is damaged. NorthWestern requires a licensed electrician to repair a damaged meter base.
